Experts claim speeding doesn’t actually help

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2019 | Traffic Tickets |

When you break the speed limit, it’s generally just because you want to get somewhere a bit sooner than you would otherwise. Maybe you left a bit late for work. Maybe you’re bored with being in the car. There are plenty of reasons that people break the speed limit.

But does it really help? Not nearly as much as you think.

After all, when you look at the time savings, they only really matter on long trips that last for hours. That’s when you can shave significant time. On that quick drive across town, you may just save a minute or two. Even if you pass every car in sight, it doesn’t change your schedule significantly at all.

Plus, some claim speeding in the city makes virtually no difference at all. Your speed just varies too much as you catch up with other traffic. Every time you have to wait at a red light, you lose some of your advantages. Just watch all those slower cars that you passed catch up to you at the light, and you’ll see how inconsequential it was.

When you add it all up, speeding risks a traffic ticket and potentially an accident, but you may arrive at nearly the exact same time that you would have if you didn’t speed in the first place.

Be this as it may, most people do wind up breaking the speed limit, either intentionally or accidentally, fairly often. If you get a traffic ticket, make sure you know exactly what steps to take and what options you have.
